Why Don’t I just Drink?

A sober friend of mine read my first posting here and sent me an email asking “well then why don’t you just go out and start drinking again?”

At first this comment annoyed me. Didn’t he READ my posting? Wasn’t it clear that I am not looking to drinking as an answer? Wasn’t it clear I know I am an alcoholic and I need to abstain from drinking and using?

Apparently not.

NO, DRINKING is not an option. Well its 99.99 percent not an option. If someone out there - sinister motives or not - wants to pay me to drink - well then lets talk! My asking price is one million US dollars. This includes publishing and television rights to the buyer of course.

But otherwise, no, I am not considering drinking (nor using) as any sort of solution to my current situation. (the current situation being that I think my life sucks due to staying with the 12 step program for too long and it having a devastating effect).

The solution I need is money. LOTS OF MONEY. However I can get it. Currently I am ASKING for money. Got some cash to spare? Feel like paypaling me some funds? Why should you? I got dozens and dozens of reasons why you should. But its late so lets save that for yet another post.

This post in on one topic - Drinking and using, or looking for an excuse to do so, is not what I am after with this blog.

This bloc’s purpose is to DEBUNK AA and its 12 step program.

with that, I say good night.

  1. Samsara:

I have heard others say the same thing to people who begin to question AA: “Why don’t you just go drink then?”

I have discussed with sane members of AA this idea of “group-speak” or “table-talk” and in my research have often seen it referenced as a type of cult-like control.

As in any social structure, some members seem more prone to adopting the social meme of “this” or “failure” with the then nonchalant “your choice.”

Unfortunately, being sick and wraught with alcoholism will leave prone more people, in my people, than any average person simply seeking a spiritual solution for an average reason - not life or death necessarily.

Again, even more unfortunately, A.A. is comprised of the sickest and most depraved people in society who will adopt the meme, thereby passing it onto others who may very well otherwise benefit from the program of A.A. It’s a hard thing when the fellowship of A.A. is 180* in direct opposition to the program of A.A.

People see the discrepency, and buying that there is no other option…leave AA only to drink again sometimes to their death or skip the drinking and head right to suicide. There are always other options.

    Thanks for the post Harry!

  2. I/GitIt:

I don’t think it matters if you drink again or not for some. Many were not alcoholics to begin with.
I, myself, have always never agreed with alot of AA and it’s talk, but had an itching fear just in case to stay. It wasn’t until I gave in and went to Therapy, that I discovered for myself the other reasons why I drank. I already knew a few and I put myself into a self-destructive mode because of both my childhood experiences and the pity I felt about it. I was never an alcoholic from the beginning. And that’s all there is to it. AA has convinced many people just like me that they are because our self-loathing guides us in the direction to be a part of a cult or in need of others who feel sorry for themselves. That of which, I am still working on and overcoming. So on the lighter side of things, I have a curable Mental Illness and nothing more. It’s called Depression and in a lot of cases, it doesn’t last forever. There are meny factors inwhich it became severe at times and the main reason was my involvement with AA and the turmoil it caused in my relationship with a very immature person.( I refrain from saying a women because she still has the mentallity of a 12 year old girl.)
Now on the other side, there are the severly mentally ill, like my X, that AA will never do any good for and will do more harm than anything else. She is predisposed to never be honest about anything or anybody in her life. And Doctors have confirmed that to me. Unfortrunately, I feel in love with her for a period of time and thus did damage to myself and my children in the process. And AA’s bullshit of,” One size fits all,” was a chief benefactor in making things very bad for all.
The fact still remains that sites like this one, Orange Papers, and More Will be Revealed need to grow and it’s members and readers need to mail and provide it’s literature to the many unknowing that are still in the rooms or will be coming in soon. Because it it totally unfair that they do not have all the information & facts before them as to what they are getting involved with. And this can be done anonymously, inperson, by email or regular mail and by writting multiple letters to editorial pages of your local newspapers. And betwwen this and Father’s Rights that are being brutalized in this country and others, I do what I can to expose these great wrongs.
My personal experience is, that my X, along with ang by other women, have been educated by AA on how to manipulate, use, and propcure children to be in custody of the many unfit mothers that whine about their losing their children because they abuse kids alot worse than the chemicles the have and still use. I’ve seen it a thousand times in AA and in my own home.

    Peace Out !!!
