What’s the point?
That we are willing to grow along spiritual lines? No not that. Been there, done than.
No I am speaking about the point of this blog.
First things First, its an avenue for me to vent my frustions, irritations etc. or as I said in the first paragraph of the first posting, so I can bitch and whine and complain. Since I knew that would be the first thing out of the mouths of the AA Faithful, I thought I’d beat them to the punch and say it for them.
yeah OF COURSE I am angry and what ever other negative attribute you want to throw out in an attempt to cloud the better reasons for this blog’s life. So now that I have admitted my selfish reason as well as YOUR selfish reason, let’s get to those better reasons.
The 12 step program of Alcoholics Anonymous is the one and only recognized solution to alcoholism by the US medical community. And thereby making it one of the only acceptable solutions from the law enforcement community. And I do not say this as a compliment to AA or the 12 steps. To me, these are unfortunate facts of society in the USA. And this brings us to the second reason why this blog exists - for those forced to get sober and be involved with AA and the 12 step program.
If you have a DUI, you have to go to AA. If you live with your parents and they think you have a problem with drugs and alcohol, you have to go to rehab. If you are in rehab, whether by force or by your wish to stop drinking, the only solution you will recieve in required AA meetings. Most rehab services, inpatient or out patient, will make it a absolute requirement you attend AA or other 12 step meetings. Some of these places will insist you get a sponsor and that you show proof of doing the 12 step work. Your workplace might find you did not pass a drug screen and there is no middle ground. You are either clean or you have a drug and drinking problem. Try arguing the point and then you become an unemployeed person with a drug problem.
So this blog is very much for you folks forced into the 12 step program.
I also want to help out those new people to the 12 step world who, like me, wanted to go into rehab and was willing to go to AA without a fight. I knew I had a problem with drugs and drinking. But THEY (the rehab counselors) were the ones who told me there was only one way to get better. It was not my idea to find god or to do any 12 steps when I drove into the inpatient detox parking lot. I went there to get off drugs so I would be happy and normal again. And well you know what happens next……..and if you dont then read some of my first postings.
And lastly, I have this small hope, as unlikely as it appears to be, that there will be AA members who read this blog and come to the conclusion that I am indeed speaking of things that happen in our fellowship. And they want it to stop as much as I do.
See this blog actually can be an instrument for change inside the current fellowship of AA and other 12 step fellowships. We can begin to recognize and point out the hypocrisy of false humility, and the other many tricks of the trade I point out here in my blogging. Perhaps you yourself have been guilty of what I write about? Its not like you intended to act like that. You just got pulled into being liked by your fellow 12 steppers, and you did what was expected of you, said what you are expected to say, thank who you are suppose to thank, and of course feel the way they want you to feel. You were new in a group and you want to do what you are suppose to do. You want to be a good member. Perfectly understandable. But now is now. And you have been reading things on these pages you know to be true.
So there it is, the point of this blog.
- To vent my frustrations and tell my story,
- to warn and teach those who are forced to be in the fellowship of the spirit,
- and to educate and assist those senior members of the 12 step world in getting our fellowship back on track.
Until the next posting, take care.
Sincerely
Harry A
