How the 12 steps screwed my life up

Before entering rehab and being introduced to AA and the 12 steps, I had the answer on how to succeed in life. I already knew the cold reality of how the world works. I already knew god does not answer prayers. No matter what the circumstances, no matter how much you need god; you will be left on your own when you pray.

Who are the people that will get screwed by doing the steps?

So in my last post AA a Go-Go: Who will the 12 steps Help ?
I wrote the following is one of the traits that will make you succeed in AA and thus you WILL give all the credit to the steps for that success.
people raised to have self confidence will do well. Whether one or both parents raised you, if you were raised to believe in yourself, told you can succeed, given encouragement through out your childhood, you will do ok with the 12 steps “

AA and all 12 step based fellowships will tell you that doing the 12 steps will make everyone better. I say that assertion is false.

Setting the record straight.

Lately I have been reading a lot of other website forums where AA is debated. Most of the folks seem to be radical anti-AA, at least where I am reading. I was wondering if perhaps I am making this blog appear to be equally completely anti-AA? I was wondering if it appeared as if I was against AA as a whole and wanted it shut down. And that’s not the case so I thought I should get a post in here ensuring my position was clear.

My first year of Sobriety

Well I suppose I do need to tackle this topic and get to typing up my story. Or in other terms, my pitch, or as I like to refer to it, ‘The AA Anti-story”. There will be NOT ONE LIE in this story. I will review and re-read every paragraph to look for exaggerations and trim them down to the facts. I will do my best to leave out my opinion as much as possible - only placing them in the story to explain a decision I made. Otherwise I will work hard to tell this story with only what happened as much as I can. Bare with me; this is sixteen years plus of my life I am telling. It is not going to be finished in 6 paragraphs.

Am I completely Doomed?

Recently on a yahoo group one of the members asked me the following after reading my blog:

I read your blog & am curious about something. You say that AA “screwed” you & “ruined” your life. Does that mean you’re completely doomed to online panhandling for the rest of your life, or are you interested in moving beyond victim mode & living a productive life free from AA’s influence?
